The Rogers Family
It simply does not get any cuter than the Rogers fam! With the smiliest baby boy and the spunkiest little girl, we had so much fun playing and running around and pausing for all the snuggles as we stayed tucked away in a little pocket of Sedgwick County Park.
Can I share this photographer's frame of mind after capturing the photo above? Pure bliss. Haha. Not just because it was a totally adorable family photo, but I recall this being captured in the first five minutes of the session. And what do parents of little ones often say when booking photos?
"We just want ONE good photo!" or "if we can just get ONE photo for the Christmas card, I'll be happy!"
My aim is obviously to provide much more than just one photo by the end of the session, and I'm always confident we'll get what the client is hoping for, but to know we got this keeper right out of the gate allowed the rest of the session to be free of concern for mom and dad, and for us to be a little more spontaneous with playing around and getting candid moments! And we really had the best time for the rest of this short and sweet session.
I want to take this moment - for any parents reading - to give you permission to let your kids be silly and goof off a little during the session! I know the hope is always to get that nice, still, smiling at the camera moment, but letting little bursts of play in the mix helps those calmer photos show the kids' true smiles. When we're flexible and allow a bit of play and moving around (and maybe even a few goofy faces!), kids can walk away from the session with fun memories and with a little less dread for the next photo session. ;)
